Donald A. "Don" Freed, 62, of Sioux City passed away Tuesday, May 31, 2011, at his residence.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at St. John Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Greg Hanneman officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service in Sergeant Bluff.

Don was born June 12, 1948, in Ida Grove, Iowa, the son of Donald Freed Sr. and Catherine Delutri. His mother later remarried Walter Zobel of Ida Grove. In 1966, he joined the Marines, serving in Vietnam.

Don was united in marriage to Margaret (Nee) Breyfogle.

He was an over-the-road trucker, driving from coast to coast. Later, he worked for several propane companies in Iowa and Minnesota as a locator for gas, electrical and water lines.

He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church.

Don is survived by his wife, Margaret; two daughters, Janine Freed of Loveland, Colo., and Michelle (Mike) Porter of Ida Grove; two stepdaughters, Paige Petersen of Sioux City, and Wendy (Brian) Jackson of Sioux City; a stepson, Jeffrey Petersen of Houston, Texas; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his stepfather.
