Joyce L. Rogers, 81, of Hot Springs Village, Ark., formerly of Sioux City, passed away June 2, 2011, at a Hot Springs Village hospital.

Services will be 11 a.m. today at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Hot Springs Village, with the Rev. Rich Biega officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Logan Park Cemetery in Sioux City. Arrangements are under the direction of CedarVale Funeral Home in Hot Springs Village. Online condolences may be posted at www.atkinsonfuneralhome.net.

Joyce was born Dec. 6, 1929, in Lincoln, Neb. She attended the University of Nebraska and was a member of Alpha Phi Sorority. While there she met Bob Rogers, her husband of 60 years. After his naval service during the Korean War, they moved to Sioux City and entered the family business, Sportsman's Sporting Goods.

In Sioux City, Joyce raised four children while being active in many volunteer organizations. She served on the boards of Junior League and YWCA. She was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Sioux City, where she was the first woman elected to the vestry. Bob and Joyce enjoyed 20 summers at their lake home in Okoboji, Iowa.

Bob and Joyce retired to Hot Springs Village in 1993. She loved her home in the pines on Lake Balboa. She was an active member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, serving as a lay Eucharistic minister and a Community of Hope chaplain.

Survivors include her husband, Bob; her children, Deborah Rogers of Park Rapids, Minn., Diane Weaver and husband Jody of Moville, Iowa, Bobby Rogers and fiancee Mary Beth of Sioux City and Bruce Rogers of Lehigh Acres, Fla.; four grandchildren, Christopher, Ginny, Cassie and Nicole; a great-grandson, Dasher; a sister, Jackie Hovendick and husband Dick; three nephews; a niece and beloved dog, Fritz.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Blanche and Heath Griffiths; and a grandson, Michael.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Hot Springs Village or St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Sioux City.
