Constance "Connie" M. Johnson, 69, of Sioux City, passed away Monday, May 23, 2011, at a local long-term care facility from complications of diabetes and Alzheimer's disease.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, June 11, at Salvation Army Church, 1415 Villa Ave., Sioux City. Abiding by family wishes, cremation has taken place. Seaside services will be in California at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel.

Connie was born as Constance Mae Winter on July 12, 1941, in Sioux City to Leslie P. and Alice (Fowler) Winter. She was raised in Sioux City, going to school at Woodrow Wilson Jr. and Central High School.

She lived in several places in Sioux City, but after marrying an Army man, they moved to Virginia, Texas and Georgia. Following the Army life, the family moved back to Iowa, living in the Holstein, Galva and Correctionville areas, and finally in Cherokee for several years. Connie returned to Sioux City, worked at Little King and Arby's while sharing her apartment with Pokie Cat, Pokie II and companion Gil Garcia. Gil took care of Connie and was by her side to the end.

Connie loved to read, sew and do crafts, especially embroidery. She was always making something for all of her loved ones and friends and made clothing for her children as they were growing up.

Connie didn't know strangers, only friends she hadn't met yet. She will be sorely missed.

Survivors include her daughter, Linda M. (Anderson) Larkins and her husband, James; sons, Danny Lee Lenninger and his wife, Elaine, and Dennis E. Johnson Jr. and his wife, Jill; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Richard and LeRoy Winsett.
