Bertil E. Ericson, 95, lifelong resident of Sioux City, died Thursday, April 28, 2011, at his residence in Omaha, Neb.

The body was cremated. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 11, at Augustana Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Del Olivier officiating. Burial will be 2 p.m. Saturday in Graceland Park Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the U.S. Army. Arrangements are under the direction of Bethany Funeral Home in La Vista, Neb.

Bertil Ericson was born in Sioux City to Swedish immigrants Andrew and Anna (Ersdotter) Ericson. He attended Sioux City Public Schools and graduated from Central High School in January 1933. He attended Edwards Business Institute. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1942 and served in Europe with the 35th Division, 735th Ordinance Company, and was discharged in 1945. He was awarded five Bronze Stars.

He married Margaret V. Lyren on Dec. 8, 1945, in Sioux City. He worked for Erwin Weller Company, Wincharger and Nystrom Electric Company. He retired in 1978 after working 23 years for Sioux Tools.

Bertil was a lifetime member of Augustana Lutheran Church, serving as an usher and on the Church Council, as president of the Luther League, Lutheran Brotherhood and the "Come Double" club. He was president of Sioux City Engineers Club. He was a member of Landmark Lodge No. 108 and Scottish Rite. He was a wagon master of the Abu Bekr Shrine Campers Unit. He was one of the last members of the Court Street Gang.

He will be fondly remembered by many as the man who "never had a bad day."

Survivors include his daughter and her husband, Lori and Pat Myers of Ralston, Neb.; a sister, Dorothy Dahl of Bellingham, Wash.; a daughter-in-law, Pam Ericson of Sioux City; four grandchildren, Matt Myers and his wife, Jen, of Overland Park, Kan., Kate and her husband, Oliver Banta, of Lincoln, Neb., Greta Ericson of Sioux City, and Veronica Newquist of Tujunga, Calif.; and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret; two sons, Paul and Jon Ericson; a sister, Astrid Gaffga; and a brother, Tom Ericson.
