Darlene M. Nieuwendorp, 74, of Sioux City died Wednesday, July 27,2011 at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday at Central Baptist Church with the Rev. Don Craig officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.

Darlene was born on Oct. 25,1936 in Orange City, Iowa. She was the daughter of Gerrit and Cora (VerHoeven) Mouw. She was raised on a farm in Sioux County and attended a country school.The family moved to Orange City, where she graduated from high school in 1954. She was elected the homecoming queen of the high school that same year.

Darlene married Don Nieuwendorp on June 27,1957 in Orange City, Iowa. The couple moved to Sioux City, where she worked for Travelers Insurance until they had their family. She then stayed home to take care of her two children. After her family was raised, she went to work for Van Waters and Rogers Chemical Co.

She was an active member of Central Baptist Church. She was a charter member of Morningside Reformed Church and New Hope Community Church. Darlene loved taking pictures, traveling to Colorado and making family holidays special. The most important part of her life was her commitment to her faith, family and praying for her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Don; her children, Cindy and Jerry Vincent of Minneapolis, Minn., and Mark and Jody Nieuwendorp of Sioux City; four grandchildren, Tim and Kathryn Vincent, Gerrit and Grant Nieuwendorp; and her brothers, John and Harriet Mouw of Melvin, Iowa, and Lowell and Marcia Mouw of Spencer, Iowa.
