Jerry Grell, 45, of Danbury died Tuesday, July 19, 2011, at his home.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Danbury, with the Rev. Terry Roder officiating. Burial will be in Danbury Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service Monday at the church. Armstrong Funeral Home of Danbury and Mapleton, Iowa, is in charge of the arrangements.

Jeremia "Jerry" Joseph Grell was born March 29, 1966, at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Sioux City, the son of Freddie and Evonne (Kennaley) Grell. He was raised in Danbury and graduated from Maple Valley High School with the class of 1984. From a young age, he worked in the family business, Grell Trucking. He also had various other jobs including Barry Motor Company and Wells Blue Bunny.

On Oct. 25, 1986, Jerry married Jill Stehr at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Danbury.

He was a family man who expressed affection for young and old. He was known as the cool uncle to his nieces and nephews, especially at Christmas when he gave each of them really nice gifts. He was a soft spoken patient kind of guy with a sense of wit, pulling off some good one-liners. He really loved his pets, especially his current dog, Jasper. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Danbury.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Randy and Renae Grell of Sioux City; two grandchildren, Landon and Koen Grell; his parents, Freddie and Evonne Grell of Danbury; two sisters, Dolly Varner and her husband, Dan of Sioux City and Anne Carlson of Ida Grove, Iowa; two brothers, Tom Grell of Kansas and Jamey Grell and his wife, Anna of Danbury; a special niece, Angie Watkins of Ida Grove; along with several other nieces and nephews; and his special companion, Jasper, his dog.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Matt and Alvina Grell; and maternal grandparents, Thomas "T.E." and Anne Kennaley
