Carroll Manning Jensen, 87, of Sloan died Friday, March 9, 2012 at his home.

Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Community of Christ Church in Sloan, with Dr. Emery Killian officiating. Burial will be in Sloan Cemetery, with full military honors by Smith-Rhodes American Legion Post 295. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, with the family greeting friends from 4 to 6 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Root Funeral Home (formerly Pearson Funeral Home) in Onawa. Online condolences may be expressed at www.rootfuneralhomes.com.

Carroll Manning Jensen, son of Nels and Rozella (Carroll) Jensen, was born March 8, 1925 in Meno, Mo. Carroll's family made their home in Missouri until moving to Monona County, Iowa. On July 20, 1943, Carroll enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He served during World War II and part of the Korean War until being honorably discharged.

On April 22, 1946, Carroll was united in marriage to Clealus Bernice Schuster in Hornick, Iowa. To this union five children were born, Pam, Paulette, Vernon, Darren and Denise. Carroll and Bernice made their home in Sloan. He farmed for a short time, was an independent trucker and later drove over-the-road for Boyer Provisions until his retirement in 1990. During his retirement, Carroll worked various part-time jobs.

Carroll enjoyed fishing and collecting John Deere memorabilia. He was a member of Emery Johnson American Legion Post 481 in Whiting, Iowa.

Carroll is survived by his children, Pam Jensen of Sioux City, Paulette Herrera, Vernon Jensen and Denise Jensen, all of Sloan; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Eva Butler of Granby, Mo., and Maude Chaffin of Johnson, Kan.; nieces, nephews; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Bernice in 2003; one son, Darren in 1998; and two brothers, Harold Jensen and Nels Jensen Jr.
