Darrell A. Ryan, 80, of Sioux City passed away Wednesday, May 30, 2012, at Sunrise Retirement Community.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Grace United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Tony Nester officiating. Graveside services will be 9:30 a.m. Saturday in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the graveside service Saturday at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Online condolences may be sent to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Darrell was born on March 7, 1932, in Sioux City, to Phillip and Gladys (Fisher) Ryan. He graduated from East High School. After graduation, he served his country during World War II.

He was united in marriage to Gloria Stofferan on Oct. 13, 1956 in Baker Township near Hospers, Iowa. Darrell worked as a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service.

He enjoyed fishing, playing golf, and watching college football, especially the Iowa Hawkeyes. He was also an avid woodworker, making furniture and wood carvings. Darrell was a member of Grace United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Gloria Ryan of Sioux City; daughters, Julia (David) Hawkins of Horn Lake, Mo., and Jill (Kevin) Landau of Mason City, Iowa; four grandchildren; a great-grandchild; brother, Donn (Mary) Ryan of Westfield, Iowa; and a sister, Gladine “Penny” (Richard) Kleinberg of Sioux City.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Pallbearers will be Dave Hawkins, Kevin Landau, Cole Landau, Jeremy Ryan, Jesse Hawkins and Richard Kleinberg.
