Kevin Patrick Larkin, 65, of Sioux City died Monday, May 28, 2012, at his home after a seven-month illness.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. The Rev. Michael T. Larkin, brother of the deceased, and the Rev. Merlin Schrad, pastor of the parish will celebrate the Mass. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Homes.

Kevin was born on May 8, 1947, in Sioux City, the son of Philip and Eileen (Mc Grane) Larkin. He was a lifelong Sioux City resident. He graduated from Heelan High School in 1966 and attended Briar Cliff College. He then attended the San Francisco School of Mortuary Science. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War, being stationed in Guam.

After returning to Sioux City, he worked for the family business, Larkin Funeral Home. Kevin and his brother, Dennis, owned and operated the funeral home for many years until the business was merged with Christy-Smith Funeral Homes in 2006. Kevin stayed with the funeral home until his retirement in October 2011.

He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, where he served as an usher and Eucharistic minister. He was also a member of the Third Degree Knights of Columbus, Council 743 and the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, Garrigan Assembly. He was a member of the Iowa Funeral Directors Association and National Funeral Director Association. Kevin enjoyed league bowling and was an avid reader, especially enjoying history. He was a New York Yankees, Kansas City Chiefs and an Iowa Hawkeye fan. Kevin was a very kind and generous man who never wanted to be in the spotlight. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

He is survived by eight brothers and sisters, Shaun O’Meara of Hudson, Wis., the Rev. Mike Larkin of Sioux City, Maureen and David O'Meara of Shakopee, Minn., Gene and Nancy Larkin of Pleasant Hill, Calif., Lael Larkin of Sininawa, Wis., Sr. Kerry Larkin, OSM of Oshkosh, Wis., Dennis Larkin of Sioux City, and Pat Larkin of San Francisco, Calif.; 14 nieces and nephews; and 13 grandnieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Philip and Joseph; a brother-in-law, Tom O'Meara; and a sister-in-law, Linda Larkin.
