Morris Aizenberg, 92, of Omaha, formerly of Sioux City, died Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2012, in Omaha.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Independent Farane Cemetery in Graceland Park, Sioux City, with Rabbi Guy Greene officiating. Military rites will be conducted. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Condolences may be posted online at www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Morris was born on May 6, 1920, in Rochester, N.Y., and moved shortly after to Sioux City, where he grew up. He was the son of Joseph and Rachel Aizenberg. Morris spent a portion of his youth in Jewish Palestine prior to the establishment of the State of Israel after his father died suddenly in 1933. Morris moved back to Sioux City as a teenager in order to finish his education. After which he served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1946 when he was honorably discharged.

Morris married Hannah Holdowsky, also from Sioux City, on Nov. 11, 1942. They were married for 64 years. Morris spent most of his working career in the wholesale grocery business. He particularly enjoyed traveling to the many small towns in Iowa, Nebraska and South Dakota, where he often provided service to the only grocery store in town. He enjoyed the relationships he developed with the individuals in the grocery business and often conducted business through informal agreements and understandings.

Morris was an avid bridge player throughout his life and was a master level duplicate bridge player. He also enjoyed bowling, all kinds of sports and was a great fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes. He participated in a wide variety of Jewish and general organizations and followed political events very closely.

Morris is survived by a son and his wife, Jeffrey and Susan Aizenberg; a son-in-law, Sheldon Lerner, all of Omaha; five grandchildren, Chris Aizenberg, Joni Percival, Jodi Lerner, Aaron Aizenberg and Justin Lerner; one great-grandchild, Isaac Aizenberg; and a sister, Norma Barmack of Los Angeles, Calif.

Morris was preceded in death by his wife, Hannah Holdowsky Aizenberg (9/20/2006); his eldest child, Judi Lerner Aizenberg (11/27/98); and his youngest sister, Joan Jarvis.

Donations may be made in his name to Congregation Beth Shalom, 815 38 St., Sioux City, IA 51104
