On Monday the 18th inst., John G. Stauffer, father of J. D. Stauffer, died after a short but painful illness. The funeral occurred on Tuesday under the auspices of William Baker post G.A.R. of which he was a member. Promptly at half past two o'clock the post formed into line at the hall, and with furled color', followed a martial band to the residence. Here the customary exercises were conducted by Chaplain Stevens, after which the pall bearers Comrades Adams, Furgason, Frey, Haworth, Todd and Vinnedge, bore the remains to the hearse when the post, preceded by the band and followed by a concourse of civilians on foot and in carriages, escorted the remains of their late comrade to the cemetery. Here the ritual services were conducted by the chaplain.

Commander Laughlin delivered a touching extempore address. Comrade Weeks then, in behalf of the post, laid a beautiful floral wreath upon the coffin. Comrades Adams and Crowther also presented tokens of flowers, after which the benediction was pronounced and, following the band, the procession moved back to town.

The deceased was a member of the 108 Illinois, and served in the war of the rebellion, in the capacity of drum-major.

His health began failing, he was discharged at the end of that time and returned home. 'Mr. Stauffer came to Correctionville about a year ago from Marshalltown and has since lived with his son.
