Mary Ann Nelson, 83, of West Des Moines, formerly of Sioux City, passed away April 18, 2012.

Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Saturday in Graceland Park Cemetery, Sioux City. Arrangements are under the direction of Brooks Funeral Care in Clive, Iowa.

Mary was born on Nov. 10, 1928, in Sioux City. She graduated from Central High School and went on to work for Sears for 30 years. After her retirement, she worked for the 1990 Census where she learned to operate a computer. She lived in Sioux City until 2009 when she moved to West Des Moines.

Mary was an active member of Our Savior Lutheran Church from her baptism until the closure of the church. Mary was very personable and loved talking with people. She will be most remembered for her great sense of humor and remarkable joke telling.

Mary is survived by her daughter, Barb (Roger) Jorgensen; grandson, Jeff (Megan) Jorgensen; granddaughter, Kristin Jorgensen; and two great-grandchildren, Alex and Zach.

Preceding her in death are her husband, Verner; son, Karl; and two sisters, Lucille and Bonnie.

Memorials may be directed toward the family.
