William "Bill" A. Wecker 1923-2012

William "Bill" A. Wecker, 88, of Sioux City passed away Tuesday, April 17, 2012, at Touchstone Living Center.

Memorial services will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Roger Madden officiating. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Saturday in Graceland Park Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Online condolences may be offered to the family at www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Bill was born on Aug. 18, 1923, in Le Mars, Iowa, to Martin and Eunice (Schrooten) Wecker. He graduated from Hinton (Iowa) High School before making a career as a livestock broker and a farmer.

Bill married Alyce Borschuk on Aug. 2, 1943. To this union one child was born.

He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching all the various high school sports in the Siouxland area. He also enjoyed watching the Explorers, and was a constant fan of the Chicago Cubs and Dallas Cowboys. Bill was giving of his time for others through visiting the elderly in local nursing homes, sponsoring in the Big Brothers Organization, and serving in the Shriner's Morningside Lodge 615. He was devoted to giving to, and utilizing of, the YMCA in Siouxland. Bill and Alyce enjoyed traveling, including visiting all the major baseball and football stadiums, several trips to Las Vegas, Nev., and the two especially enjoyed locally sponsored bus trips. Bill was a proud member of First United Methodist Church.

Bill is survived by his daughter, Barbara Knopp of Caledonia, Ill.; two grandchildren, Amy DePinto and her husband, Justin of Elmhurst, Ill., and Andrew Knopp of Denver, Colo.; two great-grandchildren, Isabella and Dominic DePinto of Elmhurst; a special family friend, Vickie Buchholz of Caledonia; niece, Deb Tudehope of Sioux City; and his K-9 companion, Benji.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Alyce in February 2012; and his sister, Violet.
