July 22, 2012Vincent Mann, 81, of Sioux City passed away Thursday, July 19, 2012, at his residence, after a valiant battle with cancer.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Boniface Catholic Church, with the Rev. Michael Erpelding officiating. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Vince was born July 3, 1931, in Sioux City to Virgil G. and Gwendolyn (Hyde) Mann. He grew up in Sioux City, attended Sioux City schools and graduated from Trinity High School in 1949. He served four years in the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict on the USS Rendova.
He married Joann Marks on April 7, 1956, in Sioux City, and then graduated from the University of South Dakota. Vince worked for Freeman Company in Yankton, S.D., and then for many years at American Equipment Corp. in Sioux City. Upon his retirement, Vince worked for Bomgaars.
He was a longtime member of St. Boniface Catholic Church and the Men's Club. Vince also sang in the choir and was an usher at St. Boniface. He enjoyed golfing, hunting and fishing. He had coached grade school football for more than 50 years. He was an avid Nebraska fan, Civil War buff and loved country music.
Survivors include his wife, Joann of Sioux City; two daughters, Kim Manley and her husband, Scott of South Sioux City, and Kathleen Mann and Eric Waldon of Sioux City; and six grandchildren, Nicole Olson and her husband, Casey, Megan and Elizabeth Manley, Trynn, Kelsie and Alexander Waldon.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Benjamin Waldon.
Pallbearers will be Scott McClary, Doc Hansen, Terry Hansen, Mike Hansen, Jeff Newmann and Matt Rector. Honorary pallbearers will be Hal Sparran, Wilbur Westhoff and Ron Roupe.
