Marian E. Frans, 87, of Sioux City passed away Thursday, July 19, 2012, at Countryside Senior Living care facility in Sioux City.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Grace United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Timothy Bonney officiating. A private family interment will be held prior to the services in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.

Marian was born on Jan. 22, 1925, in Sioux City, to Walter and Anna (Pritchett) Spence. She moved with the family to Boone, Iowa, during her childhood, where she later graduated from high school in 1943. After high school, she returned to Sioux City and attended and graduated from the Methodist Hospital School of Nursing.

Following her graduation in 1947, Marian began her employment at the Methodist Hospital, subsequently St. Luke's Medical Center, in Sioux City. For more than 40 years, Marian worked in pediatrics, was nursing supervisor and lastly, as head recovery nurse before her retirement.

Marian married Ronald Dale Frans on Sept. 7, 1950, at First United Methodist Church in Sioux City. He passed away July 25, 1996, in Sioux City.

Marian was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Morningside and Rachel Circle. She was also active in a retired nurses' association. Marian enjoyed traveling, her family and grandchildren, reading and word puzzles. The greatest joys of her life included the adoption of her daughter, Cara, nursing and traveling.

Survivors include her sons, Charles and wife, Jan Frans of Santa Fe, N.M., and Mark and wife, Diane Frans of Omaha; daughter, Cara and husband, Brad Larson of Lawton, Iowa; six grandchildren, Rebecca Frans, Benjamin Frans, Heather (Frans) Gosda, Jeffrey Frans, Zachary Larson and Adam Larson; one great-grandchild, Madelynn Gosda; sister-in-law, Martha Spence of Richardson, Texas; brother-in-law, Robert Frans of Fayetteville, Ark.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brother, Robert Spence; and sister-in-law, Jean (Frans) Bruce.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of Siouxland and/or the June E. Nylen Cancer Center in Sioux City.
