Patrick L. Thompson, 67, of Sloan died unexpectedly Tuesday, March 27, 2012, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Community Church of Christ in Sloan, with the Rev. Dr. Emery Killian officiating. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Monday in Eastview Cemetery, Allen, Neb. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service in Sergeant Bluff. Pat was born on July 5, 1944, in Wakefield, Neb., the son of Philo and Gladys (Penlerick) Thompson. He graduated from Allen Consolidated Schools with the class of 1962.

He was united in marriage with Nadine Schomaker in 1963; the couple divorced in 1978. In 1979, he married Lynette Sandra McCaw in Wakefield. The family moved to the Sloan area in 1987 from Bancroft, Neb. Pat drove a truck for more than 50 years working for Wimmer's Meat, PBX Truck Lines, and for the past 17 years for K & B Trucking in South Sioux City.

Pat was a joyful person who enjoyed cleaning the fish that Lynette caught, woodworking, camping and being a grandpa. His family was the priority of his life. He was a current member of Sloan Community Church of Christ, had formerly served as a Boy Scout leader and was a former member of the Bancroft Volunteer Fire Department.

Pat is survived by his wife, Lynette "Sandy"; his five sons, James Thompson and his wife, Mindy of Sloan, Scott Thompson and his wife, Sharon of Blair, Neb., Todd Heaton and his wife, Cindy of Elk Point, S.D., Timothy Heaton and his wife, Loretta of Jefferson, S.D., and Troy Heaton of Athens, Ga.; his three daughters, Laura Mackling of Emerson, Neb., Kathy Vomacka and her husband, Stan of Leigh, Neb., and Tara Moreland and her husband, Mike of Jefferson, S.D.; his 24 grandchildren; his 12 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Ross Thompson and his wife, Bonnie of Sidney, Neb., Merlyn Thompson and his wife, Jean of Fremont, Neb., and Norman Thompson and his wife, Mickey of Kearney, Neb.; and his two sisters, Betty Miner and Edith Taylor, both of Wakefield.

Pat was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Manuel and Mike Thompson; his son-in-law, Gene Mackling; three brother-in-laws, Harold Murray, Bill Taylor, and Bob Miner; and three sister-in-laws, Lee Jean Hanson, Ann Thompson, and Carol Thompson.
