M. Joan Jackson, 78, of Sioux City died Monday, April 9, 2012, at her residence following a three-year-long battle with cancer.

Services will be 11 a.m. today at Westminster Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. John Pehrson officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Joan was born on June 25, 1933, in Sioux City, the daughter of Harvey and Margaret (Campbell) Wyant. She grew up in Sioux City and graduated from East High School, where she sang in the choir and was a cheerleader. After graduation, she began working for Northwestern Bell Telephone.

She married William R. Jackson Jr. on April 22, 1955, in Sioux City. He died on Dec. 11, 2011, in Sioux City. Joan was primarily a homemaker after her children were born. She did work for Washington Grade School and was the office manager for Jackson Pumping Service.

She was very active at Westminster Presbyterian Church, where she served as a deacon and was a member of the Cutter's Club. She enjoyed going to the monthly luncheons with the church ladies. She enjoyed sports and was very involved with her son's activities. Joan loved discussing current events and political issues with friends and family. She enjoyed gardening and bird watching. Joan loved swimming and the special people in her water aerobics class at the Y. What she cherished most was the time with her family.

Survivors include five children, Julie Kinnaman, Jeff Jackson, Chris Young and her husband, Bob, Tim Jackson and Tony Jackson, all of Sioux City; a brother, Jack Wyant and his wife, Marge of Sioux City; and a grandson, Evan Young of Sioux City.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Bill.

Pallbearers will be Jeff, Tim, Tony and Jim Jackson, Mike Antonovich and Bob Young.

Memorials may be made in her name to Westminster Presbyterian Church or Hospice of Siouxland.
