Robert C. Eldredge, 87, of Sioux City passed away Friday, April 6, 2012, at Touchstone Living Center surrounded by family.

Memorial services will be 6:15 P.M. Tuesday at Trimble United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Martha Anderson officiating. There will be a Masonic service prior to the memorial service beginning at 6 p.m. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Thursday in the City Cemetery at Lake City, Iowa. Robert was born the son of William E. and Alice (Tubbs) Eldredge on July 28, 1924, in Lake City, Iowa. He graduated from Lake City High School and later from Morningside and Drake University.

Robert married Ruth Fowler and to that union, three children were born. Throughout his career, Robert worked as park and recreation director in Sioux City, recreation conservation director in Scarsdale, N.Y., recreation superintendent in Hartford, Conn., and recreation superintendent in Des Moines until his retirement in 1989.

Robert was past president of the Morningside Alumni Association and the Iowa Recreation Society; past chairman of Exchange Club Sports and Vacation Show, Sioux City; past chairman of First Aid and Disaster Committee of the American Red Cross, Sioux City; and past chairman of Midwestern AAU. He coached the Sioux City Mariners and South Sioux City Dolphins. He was a present 32nd degree Mason, and current member of the VFW and American Legion. Robert was the 1st vice president of judges at the National Golden Gloves for six years, officiated the National Golden Gloves for 21 years, and was chief of officials for the Iowa Golden Gloves since 1981, where he was also involved as executive secretary, registration, chair, treasurer. He was a member of the USAB Board of Review for 12 years and conducted official boxing clinics in Iowa since 1981.

Robert honorably served his country in World War II in the Army 404th Field Artillery Regiment 86th Infantry Division (Black Hawks). He was honorably discharged with the rank of sergeant.

Robert is survived by two sons, Mark Eldredge and Kent (Cathy) Eldredge; one daughter, Susan (Gary) Roberts, all of Sioux City; six grandchildren, Kevin, Kyle, Amy, Danica, Bobby and Jeremy; 19 great-grandchildren; one brother, Phillip T. Eldredge of Milford, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Alice; and one brother, William.

The family would like to sincerely thank both Hospice of Siouxland and Touchstone Living Center for the care they showed Robert.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Hospice of Siouxland.
