Lowell Dee Champlin, 90, of Webb City, Mo., formerly of Sioux City, passed away Thursday, April 5, 2012 at Freeman West Hospital.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery, Joplin, Mo., with the Revs. Kyle Beverlin and Bob Warren officiating. Military honors will be conducted by members of the Missouri National Guard Juliet Team. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Parker Mortuary in Joplin.

Lowell was born June 28, 1921 in Stevens, S.D., to the late James Ray Champlin and Emma Marie Champlin. He had lived in the Joplin area since 1978, moving from Iowa.

He married Nadine M. Borah on April 16, 1942 in Nebraska. She preceded him in death on Jan. 28, 2006. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during World War II. He spent most of his time in the South Pacific and was part of the first wave of forces sent to Japan before his unit was called back. He was very proud of his military involvement. He credited his wife for keeping him going through the times that seemed the toughest.

He worked in the electronics industry for over 30 years. He started his career at Zenith Corporation. Lowell worked at Ace Electric and Motorola before he retired in 1985.

While in Sioux City, he was a faithful member of Central Baptist Church. He served as a Deacon and taught Sunday school there. He also attended Emmanuel Baptist Church in Webb City.

Survivors include his children, Pamela Spaulding and her husband Vernon of Webb City, David D. Champlin and his wife Janice of Spring, Texas, Dennis L. Champlin and his wife Karla of Santa Fe, N.M., Douglas W. Champlin and his wife Cyndi of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, Ronald L. Champlin and his wife Sandra of Omaha, Neb., Bonita J. Shivley and her husband George W. of Joplin, and Beverly D. Neal of Webb City; one brother, Ivan L. Champlin Jr. and his wife Virginia of Oak Harbor, Wash.; one sister, Bonnie Kalma of Centralia, Wash.; 16 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by several sisters and brothers.
