Lester J. Gurdin, 69, of Estero, Fla., formerly of Sioux City, passed away unexpectedly, peacefully, on Jan. 8, 2012, at his residence. He had been an Estero resident since 2000.

A celebrate life service will be 9:30 a.m. today at Shikany's Bonita Funeral Home in Bonita Springs, Fla.

Les was born April 19, 1942, in Yonkers, N.Y., the son of the late Emmanuel and Lillian (Lipschitz) Gurdin. Mr. Gurdin was raised in Yonkers. Following graduation from high school, he moved to Sioux City to attend Morningside College, where he graduated in 1964. He then attended and graduated from the University of South Dakota Law School, class of 1967. Les practiced law in Sioux City from 1967 to 2000.

During his retirement he was a member of the Brooks Fishing Club and enjoyed golfing. Most importantly Les enjoyed socializing with family and friends.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 30 years, Lois E. (Wyrum) Gurdin; loving children, William (Tammy) Gurdin of Richmond, Va., Julie (Jeremy Lorge) Gurdin of Bronx, N.Y., Mindy Dreith of Naples, Fla. and Lance (Minta) Winsor of San Ramon, Calif.; and cherished grandchildren, Sophia, Gabrielle, Stella, Jayden, Brody and Jack, who will all miss their "papa" very much.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Morningside College in Sioux City, for a scholarship fund for students entering pre-law, or to the American Heart Association.
