Rose Marie King of Sioux City passed away on Thursday, Feb. 23, 2012 in South Sioux City after a long illness.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Joan Frenzel, Dakota City United Methodist Church, officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Tuesday at the funeral home.

Rose Marie was born on Nov. 19,1951 in Sioux City. She was the daughter of Melvin Dean and Nettie Marie (Marrow) King. She was raised in the Dakota City area and graduated from South Sioux City High School. She lived in Nebraska, Wyoming, Alaska and returned to Sioux City in 1982. She returned to college at Wayne State and graduated from there with honors.

Rose Marie was a member of Dakota City United Methodist Church. She loved to travel, was an artist, enjoyed sewing and had a great love for trains. Her favorite things were celebrating Christmas and her birthday.

She is survived by her daughter, Marie Ann Burns of Sioux City; her father and his wife, Melvin and Jean King of Sioux City; her longtime friend, Jake Brasser of Sioux City; brothers and sisters, Roy and Margaret King of Sergeant Bluff, Hope and Jimmy Thomas of Hasbrouck Heights, N.J., Jay and Kathy King of Le Mars, Iowa, Ted and Diana King, Ray and Carla King, all of Sioux City; three stepbrothers, Dondi and Carla Stender of Omaha, Neb., Randi Stender of Sioux City, and Jodi and Jackie Stender of Moville, Iowa; as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Nettie Marie Blue, and her son, Jonathan Dean Avery Burns.
