SIOUX CITY -- Michael J. Ramm, 56, of Sioux City died Saturday, Sept. 24, 2011, at a Sioux City hospital following a five week courageous battle with melanoma.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Michael Catholic Church, with the Rev. Gary Snyder officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Mike was born July 10, 1955, in Sioux City, the son of Archie and Betty (Ortner) Ramm. He grew up in Danbury, Iowa, and attended Catholic grade school there. He graduated from Maple Valley High School in 1974, where he excelled in sports. He was active in football, basketball, and baseball. He then attended Northwest Missouri State College.

Mike married Denise Ritchie on Nov. 2, 1984, in Sioux City. He worked at Wilson Trailer as a draftsman from 1978 to 1981. He then worked for Mid-American Energy from September 1981 to September 2011.

He was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church. He enjoyed golf and was a fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes football team. He also enjoyed vacationing with his best friends, Roger and Lynette Braesch, and spending time with the family dog, Buddy.

Survivors include his wife, Denise of Sioux City; a daughter, Michaela at home; his mother, Betty Ramm of Sioux City; two brothers, David Ramm of Sioux City and Tom Ramm of San Francisco, Calif.; a sister, Deb York and her husband, Kurt of Council Bluffs, Iowa; his father and mother-in-law, Paul and Ellen Ritchie of Smithland, Iowa; a brother-in-law, Stephen Ritchie and his wife, Tammy of Smithland; four nieces; four nephews; two grandnephews; three grandnieces; and Michaela's many special friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Archie; paternal grandparents, Charles and Erma Ramm; and maternal grandparents, John and Mary Ortner.

Pallbearers will be Roger Braesch, Chuck Hanson, Bob Hamers, Doug Olson, Matt Max, and Kevin Brady. Honorary pallbearers will be Jason and Kurt York, and Jason, Justin, Jared and Stephen Ritchie.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in Mike's name.
