SIOUX CITY | Harlan Floyd Riggs, 81, of Humansville, Mo., formerly of Sioux City, passed away Saturday, May 12, 2012, at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Mo.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Murray Funeral Home in Humansville. The Rev. Amy Wood will officiate. A visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.murrayfuneralhome.com.

Harlan was one of three sons born to John Harvey and Mary Anne Albert Riggs, in Anselmo, Neb., on April 11, 1931. Harlan served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War.

He married Vernice Robbins on Feb. 13, 1954, and they celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary this past winter. They lived in Sioux City for many years, while Harlan worked at the Sioux City Stockyards and then retired after 17 years from the city of Sioux City, where he was an equipment operator. He moved to Humansville in July 1998, and made many friends in the area.

Harlan was of the Methodist faith and a member of Vista Methodist Church in Osceola, Mo. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge in Sioux City, and a member of the Humansville Senior Center. He enjoyed fishing, dancing at the club, joking and visiting with people. He loved to go to garage sales, rummage sales and household auctions. He was a professional collector of previously used merchandise. He loved his animals.

He is survived by his wife, Vernice of the home; daughters, Roxanne Boughton and husband, Terry of Bellevue, Neb., and Dian Rumsey and husband, Chuck of Omaha; grandsons, Brian Lamoureux and friend, Deb, Heath Lamoureux, Steve Lamoureux, Kyle Johnson and wife, Sara; granddaughter, Kristi Lambert and husband, Josh; great-grandchildren, Keegan and Kaylee Lamoureux, Cy Heck (Lamoureux), J.D. and Isaac Lambert, Kendall and Brett Johnson, and an expected new arrival to the Johnson household; brothers, Herbert Rigg and wife, Joan of Sioux City, Paul Riggs and wife, Bernie of Washta, Iowa; brother-in-law, Dale Robbins; sister-by-heart, Betty Riggs; several nieces and nephews; and many special friends.

Harlan was preceded in death by his parents.
