SIOUX CITY -- Daniel Byron "Boone" Simon, 52, of Sioux City passed away Saturday, May 5, 2012, at a local hospital.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Augustana Lutheran Church. Private graveside services will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel.

Dan was born on May 26, 1959, in Sioux City, the son of Daniel and Charlotte (Walker) Simon. He grew up attending Sioux City Community Schools and graduated from North High School in 1977. He then attended Morningside College.

Dan worked in the construction and maintenance industries for a number of years. For the past seven years, Dan worked in the maintenance department at the Winnebago Indian Hospital.

He was a member of Augustana Lutheran Church and the Federal Union. Dan was a very quiet and kindhearted man. He was devoted to family, friends and his faith. He enjoyed family gatherings, spending time with his friends, and his beloved dog, Jake. Dan was an avid sports fan who enjoyed both watching and playing. Dan's love of fast pitch softball began when he played catcher for the Sportman's. He also was a loyal Sooners and Rams fan. He also enjoyed the outdoors and he had a deep respect for nature, where he spent time hiking and camping.

Survivors include his siblings, Denise Simon, Alan Simon, Cynthia Simon, Christopher Simon, and Amy Simon and her fiance, Paul Craft, all of Sioux City; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins; and his dog, Jake.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Honorary pallbearers will be John Fisher, Pete Sandman, Kory Boltz, Pat Considine, Ean Craft, Paul Craft, Liz Olsen and the Boone family.
