Funeral Services For Frank Hupke

Funeral services for Frank Hupke, Sr., were held Wednesday December 29 in the Danbury St. Mary’s church with Father A. J. Arndorfer saying mass. The mass servers were four grandsons, Ralph, Donald and Harlan Theobold and Jerome Kleine.

Burial was made in the Danbury St. Mary’s cemetery in charge of the Fitzpatrick Funeral Home. The pallbearers were Chas. Crilly, Edward Kennaley, George C. Schrunk, A.J. Riedmiller and Tony Reimer.

Mr. Hupke was born in Laun Burg, Germany, August 13, 1860. In 1888 he came to America and went to Illinois where he was employed by an Uncle. A year later he came to Iowa securing work in Sac County. On January 3, 1891, he was united in marriage to Mary Meier, to this union ten children were born who with the beloved wife survive.

In 1903 Mr. and Mrs. Hupke quit farming near Danbury moving to town where they have since resided. During this time Mr. Hupke was the faithful janitor of St. Mary’s parish for 12 years but retired a few years ago due to failing health. He suffered his first stroke December 6 and two more followed each a week apart with the latter claiming his life.

Mr. Hupke lived a good life, had many friends and was respected by all who knew him. He had a good word for everyone and all had a good word for Mr. Hupke. He often visited The Review Office and if all were not in good humor when he came in the door all were when he left the shop. He is sadly missed in the home and by all who knew him.

Surviving are the widow and ten children who are; Mrs. John Theobold of Mapleton, Joe C Hupke, Danbury, Mrs. John Mohrhauser and Frank H. Hupke of Mapleton; Mrs. John Kleine of Danbury; John W. Hupke, Bernard L. Hupke and Mrs. Anton Flammang of Mapleton; Mrs. Jerome Uhl of Storm Lake and Miss Bertha Hupke of Danbury. He is also survived by 47 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
