Funeral Services held for Luella Van Norman

Luella Marie Van Norman, 82, of Moville died unexpectedly Thursday, May 31, 2001, at her residence.

Services were held at 2:30 p.m. Monday, June 4, 2001 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Moville, with the Rev. Scott Meier officiating. Burial was in Arlington Township Cemetery. Christy-Smith McCulloch Chapel in Moville was in charge of the arrangements.

Pallbearers were Leo Miller, Jim Fisher, Larry Walker, Danny Harmes, Derl Petersen and Neal Everhart.

Betty Rhue was organist. Soloist Megan Hopp sang “Just A Closer Walk With Thee”. Congregational hymns were “Amazing Grace” and “How Great Thou Art”.

Mrs. Van Norman was born October 31, 1918, in Denison, Iowa, the daughter of Emil Herman and Anna Marie (Sachau) Thoms. She attended school in Correctionville High School. She graduated from Morningside College in Sioux City.

She married Henry Lohse in 1936. She later married Wayne “Red” Van Norman on May 22, 1949. She taught school in the Kingsley, Climbing Hill and McCook Lake, S.D. area. She had taught in Moville for 26 years.

She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church and a charter member of The Meadows Golf Course in Moville. She was a member of the Parent-Teacher Association, Iowa State Education Association, Delta Kappa Gamma Society, Alpha Kappa Delta, Leah-Ruth Circle, Department of Classroom Teachers, Rebekah Lodge, Local Teachers Association and National Council of Teachers of Mathematics. She enjoyed photography, golf, reading and crossword puzzles.

Survivors include four sons, Ronald Lohse and his wife, Edyie of Portland, Ore., Gary Lohse and his wife, Jeanneen of Pierson, Iowa, Brian Van Norman and his wife, Lauri of Sioux City, and Brad Van Norman of Tucson, Ariz.; a daughter-in-law, Betty Lohse-Hall of Shelton, Neb.; a sister, Louise Heisler of Sioux City; a brother, John Thorns of Oregon; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband and a son, Dennis Lohse.
