Services for Alvin Ploen to be held Friday August 24

Funeral services for Alvin Herman Ploen, 82, of Moville will be held Friday, August 24, 2001 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church in Kingsley. Rev Robert Eggers will officiate. Interment will be in Arlington Township Cemetery, Moville, under the direction of Christy-Smith McCulloch Chapel in Moville. Visitation will be Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. A prayer service will be at 7:00 p.m.

Pallbearers will be Kiel, Eric, Aaron, Nathan and Lucas Ploen, and Andrew Suntken.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dean Von Bergen, Junior Herbold, Harold Nash, Glenn Bappe, Jim Moss and Canice Davidson.

Mr. Ploen was born March 13, 1919 in Soldier, Iowa, the son of Henry T. and Bertha D. Stender Ploen. He graduated from Anthon High School in 1937. He married Goldia Byers May 9, 1947. She died June 9, 1989. He farmed in the Moville, Kingsley area from 1947 to 1998.

He was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Kingsley and the Wink-Sparks American Legion Post #303 of Moville.

Mr. Ploen died Sunday, August 19, 2001 at Kingsley Nursing and Rehab Center.

Survivors include three sons, Roger and his wife Patricia, Steve and his wife Cindy, Jeff and his wife Anita, all of Kingsley; two daughters, Jan and her husband Jeff Suntken of Sioux City, and Sharon Ploen and her special friend Tom Templeton of Arlington, Texas; his special friend Dana Hane of Connell, Washington; one sister-in-law, Gertrude Camarrig of Mims, Florida; 12 grandchildren, Kiel, Kelsey, Eric, Aaron, Katlynn, Nathan, Lucas and Heidi Ploen, Lindy and Andy Currie-Suntken, Tres Rosemeyer, Bleau Broekway and Tracey Armbruster; two great-grandchildren, Tyler and Leleigh Gray; four nephews and their families.

He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; a brother Walter, a sister Elnora Ploen and one grandson.
