Ruth C. McGarry, 85, of Sioux City died Monday, March 12, 2001, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Cathedral of the Epiphany, with the Rev. Paul J. Kelly officiating. Graveside services will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Anthon, Iowa, with the Rev. Mark Harrington officiating. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today, with a parish vigil service at 7 p.m., at Larkin Northside Funeral Home.

Mrs. McGarry was born Feb. 1, 1916, in Anthon, the daughter of Henry and Mabel (Coyle) Arnold. She was raised in Anthon and graduated from Anthon High School. She was then employed as a telephone operator.

She married Donald E. McGarry on Oct. 18, 1941, in Anthon. The couple moved to Sioux City in 1941. Her husband died March 14, 1992, in Sioux City. She entered Sunrise Retirement Center in 1992.

She was a member of Cathedral of the Epiphany.

Survivors include a brother, Jay Arnold of Anthon; a sister, Elsie Kindell of Sioux City; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She also was preceded in death by two sisters, Madge Arnold and Hazel Arnold Mullicane; and an infant brother.
