Lawton, Iowa—Clara Viola Nicholas, 104, of Lawton died Friday August 13, 1999 at Sunrise Retirement Community in Sioux City.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Community Presbyterian Church in Lawton with Dr. Robert E. Peters of Zephyr Point Presbyterian Conference Center officiating. Burial will be in Banner Township Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 5 p.m. today, with the family present 3 to 5 p.m. at McCulloch Funeral Home in Moville, Iowa.

Mrs. Nicholas was born December 4, 1894 in Dixon, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Alvina Viola (Reichard) Anders. She moved with her family near Lawton in 1900. She attended rural Lawton Community School.

She married Clinton “Clint” C. Nicholas on May 6, 1920. The couple farmed in the Siouxland area until 1937, when they moved into Lawton. He died May 24, 1962.

She was a member of Lawton Community Presbyterian Church, Presbyterian Women, Farm Bureau, and a charter member of American Legion Auxiliary, where she served as chaplain for several years. She enjoyed meeting the club ladies.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Glen and Ruth of Butte, Mont.; three daughters, Mabel A. Nicholas of Lawton, Irene and her husband Roland Brill of Manassas Park, Va.; and Lois Moss of Lincoln, Nebr.; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Adolph Anders; four sisters, Rosie Anders, Edna Brown, Emma Bush and Ella Nicholas; and a son-in-law, Fred Moss.
