Lawton, Iowa—M Lorraine Hess, 86, of Lawton Sunday, October 15, 1995, at a Sioux City hospital after a long illness.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Community Presbyterian Church in Lawton with Dr. Robert E. Peters officiating. Burial will be in Banner Township Cemetery. Visitation will be 2:30 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present 2:30 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at McCulloch Funeral Home, Moville. There will be a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Hess was born December 15, 1908, in Bronson, the daughter of Alvin and Gertie (Brown) Sams. She moved to Plankinton, S.D. in the early 1920s and returned to the Sioux City area in the late 1920s. She married Roscoe I. Hess December 25, 1932 in Bronson. The couple made their home in the Bronson/Lawton area.

Mrs. Hess was a member of Community Presbyterian Church and served on many church boards. She was instrumental in organizing the sewing group at the church. She was a member of Willing Workers Club and baked and delivered wedding cakes for many more than 20 years.

Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Janet McNaughton of Kingsley; three grandchildren, Roxanne H Clay and Brett McNaughton; two great-grandson, and three brothers, Lawrence Sams of Dodge Center, Minn., Glen Sams of Las Vegas, Nev. And Chester Sams of St. Petersburg, Fla.

She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Marie and Vida B and two brothers, Charles and Joy.
