Joyce Elizabeth "Jo" Whitaker, 78, of Sioux City died Sunday, July 22, 2001, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Larkin Northside Funeral Home, with the Rev. E.D. Pappadackis officiating. Burial will be in Banner Township Cemetery, Lawton, Iowa. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Whitaker was born July 27, 1922, in Moville, Iowa, the daughter of Benjamin and Flora (Reed) Williams. She moved to Sioux City as a teenager.

She was employed with several different companies including, Candyland, Curtis Sash and Door, Holiday Inn and retired from the Sunshine Grocery Store in 1987.

She had lived in Florida, Michigan, Colorado and St. Croix, Virgin Islands. She returned to Sioux City.

She was of the Presbyterian faith and enjoyed crafts, crocheting, quilting and puzzles.

Survivors include two sons and their wives, Ronald and Doreen Williams of Maplewood, Minn., and Jerry and Kathleen Williams of Sioux City; two brothers and their wives, Robert and Stella Williams and Charles and Dorothy Williams, all of Sioux City; a sister, Evelyn Torno of Sioux City; six grandchildren, Steve, Kathy, Adam, Dori, Debbie and Jerry; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Donald and Thomas; a sister, Dorothy; and a great-grandson.

Pallbearers will be Jerry Lee Williams Jr., Adam Williams, Stephen Williams, Eddie Williams, John Paul Torno and Reg Torno.
