LAWTON, Iowa -- Harold E. "Plush" Robinson, 78, of Lawton died Friday, Aug. 23, 2002, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Bethel Lutheran Church in Lawton, with the Rev. Bruce Jackson officiating. Burial will be in Banner Township Cemetery in Lawton. Visitation will be 2 to 4 p.m. today at Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel, and will continue at 6 p.m., with the family present and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the church.

Harold was born Jan. 29, 1924 in Lawton, Iowa, the son of Wallace and Beulah (Parsel) Robinson. He attended country schools and then graduated from Lawton High School. He served in the U.S. Air Force from April 1943 to September 1945. He served in the 98th Bomber Group and reached the rank of staff sergeant. He was a prisoner of war for one year.

He married Adeline L. Rasmussen on Dec. 1, 1947, in Sioux City. For 45 years he operated Plush's Service, Tank Wagon Service and Car Wash, retiring in 1993.

Mr. Robinson was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church. He had served as a councilman and mayor of Lawton. He was fire chief of Lawton for 25 years. He was a member of the Lawton Community Club. He was a lifetime supporter of Lawton and the Lawton-Bronson Eagles. He did volunteer work at Sunrise Retirement Community. He was a member of the Dancing Grannys and Grandpas. He was a member of the V.F.W. Sgt. Floyd Post 718 and American Legion Post 718 of Lawton. He was a life member of two posts of the AMVETS. He was past commander of the Tri-State Chapter and past commander of the Iowa Dept. of Ex-POWs.

His pastimes were reading, listening to the radio, doing crossword puzzles, coffee, lending a helping hand, and his family. He spoke to various groups and schools about his experiences as a POW and his love of the flag.

Survivors include his wife, Adeline of Lawton; a daughter, Shirley and her husband, Lonnie Ehlers of Moville, Iowa; two brothers, Dale and his wife, Betty Robinson of Moville, and Bedford and his wife, Donna Robinson of Lawton; five sisters, Hattie Jones of Glendale, Ariz., Jeanne Jones of Cherokee, Iowa, Florence Boetger of Sioux City, Joan Gunsolley of Sioux City, and Beverly and her husband, Earl Degen of Moville; and three grandchildren, Loren, Lori and Lisa Ehlers.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Marjorie Nichols; a brother, Duane Robinson; and two infant sisters.

Pallbearers will be Loren Ehlers, Jamie Collins, Joel Heineman, Dave Robinson, Gary Puttmann, Bill Goodwin Jr., Bill Mrla and Gail Nichols.

Honorary pallbearers will be American POWs and their wives.
