LAWTON, Iowa -- Carlos L. "Kelly" Eskelsen, 92, of Lawton died Monday, Aug. 12, 2002, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Community Presbyterian Church in Lawton, with the Rev. Wayne Peach officiating. Burial will be in Banner Township Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel.

Mr. Eskelsen was born April 15, 1910, in Moorhead, Iowa, the son of Sam and Anna (Larsen) Eskelsen. He was raised in Moorhead, where he attended school.

He married Ella Irene LaSeur on June 2, 1935, in Moorhead. She died Jan. 4, 2002.

He farmed in Monona and Woodbury Counties from 1945 to 1970, while living near Lawton. The couple moved into Lawton in 1970. They had wintered in Donna, Texas for 24 years. He had spent the last two months at Char-Mac Assisted Living. He enjoyed his stay at Char-Mac and his many old and new friends.

He was a member of Community Presbyterian Church, where he served as a deacon. He served on the Lawton town council for a number of years, was a charter member of Western Iowa Telephone Association and a member of Lawton Community Club. He was a former member of the bowling club. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also enjoyed fishing and caring for his yard and gardens.

Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Karen and Larry Forbes of Sioux City; three grandchildren and their spouses, Jeff and Christine Forbes of Dallas, Texas, David and Nancy Forbes of Kennesaw, Ga., and Shelly and Dr. David Robison of Spencer, Iowa; seven great-grandchildren, Ryan, Nathan and Kyle Forbes of Dallas, Nicole and Emily Forbes of Kennesaw, and Paul and Anna Robison of Spencer; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was also preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, a sister, a stepbrother and two stepsisters.

Pallbearers will be volunteers of Lawton Fire and Ambulance, Doug Boetger, Paul Dunn, Larry Hinrichs, Clark Hummel, Babby Ludwig and Cody Myers.

Memorials may be directed to Lawton Fire and Ambulance Service.
