Margaret Laura Christensen, 82, of Sioux City died Tuesday, April 2, 2002, at Harvest Morningside Nursing and Rehab Center following a lengthy battle with Scleroderma and Bell's Palsy.

Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel with the Rev. Alex T. Washington officiating. Burial will be in Banner Township Cemetery in Lawton, Iowa. Visitation will be one hour prior to Saturday's service at the funeral home.

Mrs. Christensen was born July 9, 1919, in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada, the daughter of Howard and Ethel (Moore) Harrison. The Harrison family moved to a farm north of Lawton in 1930.

She married Ernest O. "Dick" Christensen on June 14, 1952, in Lawton. After their marriage, they lived on the Christensen farm southwest of Lawton from 1952 to 1957. They lived in Lawton from 1957 to 1960, and in Missouri Valley, Iowa, from 1960 to 1962, Wayne, Neb., from 1962 to 1966, and moved to Weeping Water, Neb., in the summer of 1966. They moved back to Sioux City in the summer of 1967.

Mr. Christensen died Jan. 16, 2001, in Sioux City.

She taught elementary school, primarily first grade, in Tabor, Bebetown, Armstrong, and Sac City, Iowa. She also worked in a hosiery mill in California for a time before becoming a homemaker following her marriage.

She was a member of Community Presbyterian Church in Lawton, and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary in Lawton. She enjoyed reading and spending time with her granddaughters.

Survivors include a son, Delbert of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, his daughters, Jayme and Jessica Christensen, and their mother, Mary Jo of Orland Hills, Ill.; a daughter and her husband, Linda and Dale Riesenberg of Sioux City, and their daughter, Athena of Sioux City; two brothers and their wives, Cecil and Marian Harrison of Sioux City, and Richard and Regina Harrison of Columbia, Mo.; and a sister-in-law, Nina Harrison of Waukegan, Ill.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Gwen Cochran, Mildred "Mickey" Johnson and Lorna Dean; a brother, Hubert Harrison; an infant brother, Gene Harrison; and two infant sisters, Mary and Marilyn Harrison.

Honorary pallbearers will be her three granddaughters, Jayme and Jessica Christensen and Athena Riesenberg.
