LAWTON, Iowa -- Horace Everett Eberly, 79, of Lawton died Sunday, Feb. 17, 2002, in Lawton.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. today at Community Presbyterian Church in Lawton, with the Rev. Wayne Peach officiating. Burial will be in Banner Township Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel in Sioux City.

Mr. Eberly was born Sept. 2, 1922, in Lawton, the son of Horace Hiran and Verda Grace (Willer) Eberly. He attended and graduated from Lawton High School in 1942. He served in the Armed Forces during World War II, stationed in the South Pacific.

He married Helen Louise Rasmussen on Sept. 2, 1949, at Community Presbyterian Church in Lawton. He worked at a packing plant in Sioux City and retired from Sioux Preme Packing Co. in Sioux Center, Iowa, in 1992. He then drove a school bus for the Lawton-Bronson Community School until 1997. He then drove the shuttle bus for the Belle of Sioux City for one and a half years, then the special education van for Lawton-Bronson School for a year and two months.

He was a member of Community Presbyterian Church, Landmark Lodge 103 A.F. & A.M., American Legion Post 64 in Sioux City, and Northwest Iowa Chuck Wagon Association. He was a former member of the Sioux City Consistory. He enjoyed woodworking, spending time with his family, horses and tractors.

Survivors include his wife, Helen of Lawton; a son and his wife, Dennis R. and Donna Eberly of Lawton; four grandchildren, Bobbi and her husband, Colin Meister, of Dakota City, and Kerry, Ashley and Justin Eberly, all of Lawton; a brother and his wife, Virgil and Mary Lou Eberly of Rapid City, S.D.; and a brother-in-law, Delbert Heslop of Detroit, Mich.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Becky Lynn Eberly; a brother, Clarence "Corky" Eberly; and a sister, Marie Heslop.

Pallbearers will be Larry Stauber, Don Grigg, Jim Willer, Terry Schmidt, Bedford Robinson and Larry Lewis.
