LAWTON, Iowa -- Helen E. Robinson, 101, of Lawton died Tuesday, March 22, 2011, at a Sioux City nursing home.

Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Bethel Lutheran Church in Lawton, with the Rev. Bruce Jackson officiating. Burial will be in Banner Township Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home in Sioux City.

Helen was born June 14, 1909, near Hinton, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Emma (Beck) Ideker. She was raised in the Hinton area, attending rural country schools.

She married Glen Robinson on Nov. 1, 1926, in Sioux City. The couple had lived around the Correctionville and Quimby, Iowa, areas until moving to Lawton in 1952. Helen had been a cook in the Lawton-Bronson School District for nearly 20 years. Her husband, Glen, passed away on Feb. 28, 1988.

She had been baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church in rural Hinton. She was presently a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Lawton and the LWML. She also was a member of the Lawton Friendship Club. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting and especially spending time with family and all the grandchildren. She always insisted that all special family dinners had to be at her home so she could do all the cooking.

She is survived by two daughters, Pat Perkins of Lawton and Mary (Andy) Andrews of Durango, Colo.; a special friend, Sherry Kellogg; six grandsons and two granddaughters, James (Linda) Perkins of Omaha, David (Patricia) Varner of Omaha, Robert (Yvonne) Varner of Tucson, Ariz., Mark (Edna) Varner of Brazoria, Texas, Debra Woodbrey of Durango, Colo., Gretchen Frederick of Phoenix, Ariz., Phillip Robinson of Bronson, Iowa, and Daniel (Sheri) Robinson of Round Rock, Texas; 10 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and three nieces, Edna Kounkle of Le Mars, Iowa, Marjorie Ladenthin of Kingsley, Iowa, and Betty (Grant) Franker of Storm Lake, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, James "Har" Robinson; two sisters; and five brothers.

The family suggests memorials may be sent to Bethel Lutheran Church or Hospice of Siouxland.
