SIOUX CITY -- James Edward "Ed" Scott, 61, of Sioux City died Tuesday, March 22, 2011, at his home after a courageous battle with cancer.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel, with the Rev. Del Oliver officiating. Burial will be in Logan Park Cemetery, with military graveside honors. Visitation will be the hour prior to the service Saturday at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Ed was born Feb. 28, 1950, in Sioux City, the son of Samuel and Opal (Mortenson) Scott. He served with the U.S. Army from 1969 to 1971. Most recently, he worked in construction with communication towers.

Ed enjoyed boating and fishing, but most of all, he loved spending time with family and friends.

Survivors include his wife, Laura Auen-Scott; five children, Keith Scott of Texas, Cristina Scott of Alabama, Jessica Carrell and her husband, Denny Armijo of Sioux City, Jed Carrel of Holstein, Iowa, and Cliff Avery of Soldier, Iowa; three siblings, Al (Michelle) Scott of Sioux City, Betty (Alvin) Gray of Whiting, Iowa, and Carolyn Killebrew of Colorado; eight grandchildren, Micah, Jamir, Quariana, Tiana, Joseph, Chloe, Paige and Lukas; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Kenneth, Samuel, David, Robert and Charles; a sister, Alice Scott-Miller; and a grandson, Matthew.

Pallbearers will be Clifford Avery, Denny Armijo, Mark Gray, Keith Scott, Jim Barnes and Gary Marshall. Honorary pallbearers will be Rodney Cooper, Jed Carrell and Kenny Gray.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.
