SIOUX CITY -- Mary "Jeanette" Bishop, 77, passed away peacefully on Feb. 13, 2011, with her daughters by her side.

Memorial services will be held 10 a.m. Monday at Cathedral of the Epiphany, with a luncheon to follow. She will be buried at Calvary Cemetery, near her mother, at a private family service. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Jeanette grew up in Sioux City, graduating from Heelan High School in 1952. She was married to Jake Bishop from 1954 to 1974. They had four daughters and were active members of Cathedral Parish and Epiphany Parents Club. Jeanette worked for Northwestern Bell for many years. When that office closed, she moved to Ankeny, Iowa, and then Scottsdale, Ariz., with Qwest. She made each place her home.

Whether playing bridge, discussing books or having coffee at Nordstrom's, she delighted in the company of friends. She was active throughout her life in Catholic Social Justice work, union activities for the CWA (Communication Workers of America) and most especially for the Democratic Party. At the time of her death she was a member of St. Bridget's Catholic Church in Mesa, Ariz.

She faced every challenge in her life with courage, faith and humor. She delighted in her grandchildren and shared many adventures with them.

Survivors include her daughters, Gina Bishop of Sioux City, Robin (Pat) Tope of Colorado, Amy Bishop of Gilbert, Ariz., and Mari (Jeff) Dawson; her grandchildren, Phillip Bishop, Rebecca Tope, Maggie (Ryan) Adams, Joe Impecoven and Claire Impecoven; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Cecilia Flanagan.

Memorial contributions to the Alzheimer's Association are welcome.
