Helen Gertrude was born July 17, 1922, in Anthon, Iowa, the daughter of Jesse and Edith (Miller) Zerfing. She was raised in the Oto, Iowa, area and graduated from Oto High School in 1939.

Helen and Mark Plummer were united in marriage Oct. 3, 1940, at Elk Point, S.D. The couple farmed and raised their family in the Climbing Hill area. Mark passed away April 24, 1970. After his death, Helen moved to Climbing Hill and later to Moville, Iowa, and Sloan, Iowa.

Helen enjoyed her life and all her family and friends. She loved to play the piano, raised beautiful flowers and embroidered. Farming was very dear to her and she was a willing helper to join any of her family in their farming chores. Survivors include her children, Marlene Harold of Council Bluffs, Iowa, John and his wife, Lila Plummer of Gulford, Mo., Jim Plummer of Rapid City, S.D., and Barbara and her husband, Douglas Wiggs of Sloan; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Mark; her parents; a son, Kenneth; a son-in-law, Roger Harold; three brothers, Wayne, Victor and Merlin Zerfing; and a sister, Hazel Hansen.
