CORRECTIONVILLE, Iowa -- Gerald Arthur Perkins, 91, of Correctionville passed away on Sunday, March 13, 2011 at the Correctionville Nursing and Rehab Center of Correctionville, surrounded by his family.

Memorial services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Grace United Methodist Church of Correctionville, with the Rev Sheryl K. Ashley officiating. Burial will be at the Correctionville Cemetery of Correctionville. A visitation will be held 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., and a prayer service 7 p.m., at the church. The Nicklas D Jensen Funeral Home of Correctionville is in charge of the arrangements.

Gerald was born June 15, 1919 to Arthur and Morenta (Wagner) Perkins. He was raised in the Correctionville area and attended country school through the eighth grade.

On Jan. 25, 1947, Gerald was joined in marriage to Lucille (Foster) Caskey in Dakota City, Neb. The couple made their home in Correctionville. Perk worked as a truck driver over 40 years hauling livestock and grain to market. He was employed by Jeffery Trucking and Wright Trucking of Correctionville and Brown Trucking of Anthon. In the early 1970s the couple purchased Perkins Cafe. After Perk's retirement from trucking he helped manage and operate the cafe until 1987.

Gerald was a member of Grace United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Lucille; daughter, Shirley (Doug) Thompson; son-in-law, Steve Hunwardsen; daughter-in-law, Mary Caskey all of Correctionville; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Sharon Hunwardsen; sons, Doug Perkins and Gary Caskey; four sisters; and three brothers.
