SIOUX CITY -- Phyllis M. Dimsdale, 91, of Alexandria, Va., formerly of Sioux City and Fort Lauderdale, Fla., passed away Tuesday, March 1, 2011, in Alexandria.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City, with Rabbi Guy Greene officiating. Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Sunday at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Phyllis, the youngest of eight children, was born Dec. 7, 1919, in Omaha, the daughter of Meyer and Bertha (Shafton) Green. She was raised in Omaha and graduated from Central High School in Omaha. She attended the University of Iowa, where she met her future husband, Lewis Dimsdale.

She married Dr. Lewis J. Dimsdale on Oct. 22, 1939, in Omaha. They were married 65 years before he died on Nov. 1, 2004, in Fort Lauderdale.

The couple moved to Sioux City after their marriage and Dr. Dimsdale practiced internal medicine for more than 30 years. Phyllis was a mother and homemaker. After Dr. Dimsdale retired, they moved to Fort Lauderdale and spent 30 years there. After Dr. Dimsdale died, Phyllis moved to an assisted living facility in Alexandria.

She had been a longtime member of Mount Sinai Temple and the Lutheran Hospital Women's Auxiliary in Sioux City. She was a gourmet cook and was accomplished in the arts of needle pointing and knitting.

Survivors include three children, Betty Krueger and her husband, Robert of Rancho Mirage, Calif., Col. Roger Dimsdale of Alexandria, Va., and Dr. Joel Dimsdale and his wife, Nancy of San Diego, Calif.; five grandchildren, Craig Krueger, Scott Krueger, Melinda Geisser, Jonathan Dimsdale and Janet Rainey; eight great-grandchildren, Ethan Krueger, Oliver Krueger, Liam Geisser, Joshua Geisser, Rachel Geisser, Eden Geisser, Charlotte Rainey and Isabel Rainey; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and seven brothers and sisters.

Pallbearers will be Craig Krueger, Scott Krueger, Andy Galinsky, Paul Rainey, John Potash and Jim Rocklin.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Congregation Beth Shalom in Sioux City.
