31 December 1989Bronson, Iowa—Lester L. Kenney, 86, a native and lifelong resident of Bronson, died Friday, December 29, 1989, at a Sioux City hospital. He had suffered a stroke and had been ill for some time.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Elliott Creek Presbyterian Church in Bronson, with Dr. Robert E. Peters officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Sioux City. Visitation will be from 4-9 p.m. Monday, with family present from 7 p.m. at Christy Morningside Funeral Home in Sioux City.
Mr. Kenney was born November 8, 1903, in Bronson and graduated from Bronson High School in 1923. He attended Morningside College and married Violet Wilkenson December 20, 1928 in Sioux City. He farmed in Bronson all his life. He was on the Western Iowa Telephone Company board of directors for many years, the Woodbury County Board of Supervisors for 15 years and the Woodbury County Fair Board for many years. He was a 4-H leader in Bronson and coached baseball and baseball at Bronson High School as well as Little League.
He was a member of Elliott Creek Presbyterian Church and the Trail Masonic Lodge 532, AF & AM.
Survivors include a foster son, Earl Moore and his family of Sioux City; two sisters, Faye Downey of San Mateo, Calif., and Dorothy Nielson of Sioux City, three brothers, Cecil of Bronson, Boyd of Burlington, Calif., and Donald of Fresno, Calif., and several great-nieces and nephews, including Mary Thompson and family of Bronson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife in March of 1969 in Sioux City and a brother, Everett.
