SIOUX CITY -- Dorothy Peterson Crary, 90, formerly of Sioux City died Wednesday, April 20, 2011, in Santa Fe, N.M, where she had been living for the past 19 months.

Memorial services for Dorothy and her cousin, Helen Albeck, will be held in Sioux City in June.

She was born Sept. 28, 1920, in Sioux City, to Elmer and Georgia Carrigg. She graduated from Sioux City Central High School and Morningside College. She taught for 23 years at Crescent Park Elementary School in Sioux City. Other than residing in California, and Canton, S.D., she lived most of her life in Sioux City.

In February 1997, she married Robert Crary, who preceded her in death in 2001.

Even though she had been ill for more than two years, she always had a smile on her face and kept her delightful sense of humor until days before her death. She also will be remembered for her kindness and happy heart.

She loved playing bridge and golf and developed many friends through her college sorority, the "Pi's," and a local sorority group in Sioux City. She was a member of Mircoles Study Group and was a lifelong member of First Lutheran Church in Sioux City, where she belonged to the Altar Guild.

Dorothy is survived by her only child, Susan Boe (Stanley Robb) of Santa Fe; two stepdaughters, Cindy Rehan (George) of Sioux City and Susan Way (Gary) of Ponca, Neb.; two grandsons, Matthew Boe (Merideth) of Portland, Ore., and Andrew Boe (Jessica) of Santa Fe; six stepgrandchildren, Sarah Rehan, Jenny Dalton, Adam Way, Jesse Way, Broox Robb and Joseph Robb; two great-grandchildren, Jacob Boe and Mabellene Boe; five great-stepgrandchildren; three cousins in Chicago, Ill.; and numerous loving friends.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Donald Carrigg; sister-in-law, Hazel Carrigg; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to First Lutheran Church or Morningside College in Dorothy's memory.
