22 April 2011SIOUX CITY -- Barbara (Rush) Skaff, 74, of Sioux City passed away Monday, April 18, 2011, at Sunrise Retirement Community following a lengthy illness.
Services will be 6 p.m. Saturday at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, 6200 Morningside Ave. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in St. Thomas Orthodox Cemetery, Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.
Barbara was born April 1, 1937, in Merrill, Iowa, the daughter of Roger and Marie (Ogden) Rush. She grew up in Sioux City and attended Sioux City schools, having graduated from East High School in 1955.
Barbara married Michael Skaff on Aug. 27, 1960, in Sioux City. Immediately following high school, Barbara worked for Northwestern Bell until becoming a stay-at-home mother following the birth of her son. In October 1988, she began her real estate career in Sioux City. She purchased Coldwell Banker Associated Brokers Realty Inc. on Sept. 24, 1997, and ran the company until her retirement on Jan. 21, 2009.
She served as a director of the Greater Sioux City Board of Realtors for numerous years. She earned many awards including being a multi-million dollar producer for more than 20 years.
Survivors include her husband, Michael Skaff Sr. of Sioux City; her son, Michael Skaff Jr. of Sioux City; her daughter, Julie Gregg and her husband, Michael of Sioux City; three brothers, Dean Rush of Omaha, Thomas Rush and his wife, Rosemarie of Phoenix, Ariz., and Kenneth Rush and his wife, Mylet of Phoenix; two sisters-in-law, Jeanette Clair and her husband, Ralph and Delia Jones and her husband, Terry; and several nieces and nephews. Barbara is also survived by her special sisters, Mary Phillips, Barbara Arens, Sharyn Poppen, Joan Hilts, Jody Bartunek, Sandy Heyne, Cheryl Kuhn, Jane Wiederhold and Mylet Rush.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Jay and Jack Rush.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at the Bernstein Memory Care at Sunrise Retirement Community for the excellent care given to Barbara.
