21 April 2011SIOUX CITY -- Donald E. Meyers, 83, of Sioux City died of cancer Monday, April 18, 2011, at his residence.
Services will be 11:30 a.m. Friday at Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel, with the Rev. Alan Wicks officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the U.S. Naval Reserves. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. today, with the family present 5 to 7 p.m., at the funeral home. Donald was born Feb. 22, 1928, in Sioux City, the son of Lewis and Eva (Forsbury) Meyers. He grew up in Sioux City and attended Sioux City Schools. He joined the U.S. Navy and served during World War II and the Korean Conflict.
He married Lucille Trostheim on May 9, 1953, in Sioux City. Donald worked for the Chicago-Northwestern Railroad for 20 years.
Survivors include his wife, Lucille of Sioux City; six children, Diane Harding and her husband, Dale of Sioux City, Gene Meyers and his wife, Judy of Minnesota, David Meyers and Jolene Richardson of Sergeant Bluff, Donald Meyers Jr. and his wife, Janet of Missouri, Kenneth Meyers and his wife, Darlene of Sioux City, Lois Simmons and her husband, Jeff of Sioux City; a brother, Charles Meyers and his wife, Marge of New York; two sisters, Peggy Skelton of Sioux City and Mary Lou Hartson and her husband, Earl of California; 16 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Sylvester.
Pallbearers will be Tony, Terry, Ryan, Nick, and Denny Meyers and Donald Meyers III.
