21 April 2011SIOUX CITY -- John Holincheck, 95, of Sioux City died Wednesday, April 13, 2011, at Westwood Nursing and Rehab Center.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Boniface Catholic Church, with the Rev. Michael Erpelding officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, with military rites. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. John was born Jan. 11, 1916, in Hazelton, Pa., the son of Frank and Theresa (Suchi) Holincheck. He came to Sioux City in 1942.
On June 30, 1943, he married Charlotte M. Martin in South Sioux City. She died on Sept. 21, 1998, in Sioux City. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. After his honorable discharge from the service, John worked for Swift and Co. for 33 years.
For a number of years, John played Santa Claus for the schools in Sioux City. Besides his love of fishing, he enjoyed his time spent at the V.F.W. Post 1973 and the D.A.V. Chapter 54. He was a longtime member of St. Boniface Catholic Church.
Survivors include three children, Gerald Brooks of Sioux City, Shirley Nichols of Sioux City and Michael Holincheck and his wife, Kate of Fairfax, Va.; 29 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two daughters, Sonya Rowland and Paulette Smith; a son, John "Butch" Holincheck; two brothers; and four sisters.
