SIOUX CITY -- JoAnn E. Perera, 75, of Sioux City died Wednesday, April 6, 2011, at a Sioux City hospital surrounded by her loving family.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, with the Rev. Steve Bensen officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent online to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

JoAnn was born April 3, 1936, in Akron, Iowa, the daughter of Guy and Ida (Hummel) Morehead.

She married Jerry Perera on Aug. 22, 1952, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sioux City. She was a housewife, mother and manager of the coffee shop in the Hilton Inn in Sioux City for many years, retiring in 1979.

She loved to spend her free time playing at the casino, and collecting figurines and dolls. She loved growing red geraniums, but most of all spending time with her family.

Survivors include her husband, Jerry Perera of Sioux City; eight sons, Douglas Perera and significant other, Karlyn Whipple of Sioux City, Ronald Perera and Jessica Fay of Merrill, Iowa, Donald Perera and wife, Colleen, Bob Perera and significant other, Julie Bernhardt, Rick Perera and friend, Michele Smith, Steve Perera, Ken Perera and wife, Joni, and Larry Perera and wife, Vickie, all of Sioux City; a sister, Mary and husband, Jerry Lundy of Gresham, Ore.; two sisters-in-law, Joyce Comstock and Marian Morehead, both of Sioux City; 23 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and three sisters.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons Jeff, Greg, C.J., Nick, Trevor, Kyle, Ryan and Ronnie Perera.
