SIOUX CITY -- Robert M. Babb, 88, of Sioux City passed away Friday, May 6, 2011, at the VA Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D.

Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Kenneth Schmidt officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Tuesday at the funeral home. Online condolences may be sent to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Robert was born Nov. 4, 1922, in Hornick, Iowa, to George and Mae (Harding) Babb. He graduated from Whiting High School. He served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army.

Robert was married to Dorothy Zalejka on Dec. 30, 1955, in Sioux City. He retired from Joe Rosenthal and Son's in 1984.

Robert enjoyed dressing up and playing Santa Claus for children. He also enjoyed fishing and camping. He was a coach for more than 10 years for handicapped children. He was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Babb of Sioux City; son, Bill Babb of Sioux City; three grandchildren, Thaddeus, Caleb and Sarah; and two great-grandchildren, Ethan and Katlyn.

He was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters and two brothers.
