SIOUX CITY -- Marilyn Anne Davis, 82, a longtime resident of Sioux City passed away May 6, 2011, surrounded by her family.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, with the Rev. John Hagberg officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, 6200 Morningside Ave.

Marilyn was born Dec. 5, 1928, in Spring Valley, Minn., to Archibald and Amy (Hanson) Cooper. She graduated from Spring Valley High School. She worked at the Mayo Clinic as a medical secretary until she moved to Sioux City in July 1948. Shortly after moving to Sioux City, she joined Epsilon Sigma Alpha, business women's sorority, and began her career at St. Joseph's Hospital in January 1949.

She was married to Dale E. Davis in November 1949, at the Norwegian Lutheran Church in Spring Valley. To that union, six children were born. In 1966, she returned to work at St. Joseph's Hospital and continued with Marion Health Center after they merged, until her retirement in 1992. She attained her certified medical transcription certification during her career.

She was a member of the American Association for Medical Transcription. She also was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church. She was a secretary of Ruth Circle and active in the Singles Club for many years at Our Savior Lutheran Church until its closing.

She is survived by her children, Joel Davis of Portland, Ore., Brian (Pam) Davis of Sioux City, Sue Richards of Emerson, Neb., Craig (Barb) Davis of Sioux City, Eric Davis of Rapid City, S.D., and Carol Davis of Portland, Ore.; 10 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Archibald and Amy Cooper; a brother, Keith Cooper; a sister, Rosalie Kruegel; a granddaughter, Megan Paetzel; and a grandson, Erik Davis.

Memorials may be directed to Sunrise Retirement Community.
