SIOUX CITY -- Albert R. Homer, 66, of Sioux City passed away Friday, April 29, 2011, at his residence following a brief illness.

Memorial services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with Elder Tom Callendar officiating. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a time of sharing at 7 p.m., at the funeral home.

Albert was born Aug. 30, 1944, in Sioux City, the son of John and Thelma (Titus) Homer. He graduated from the Iowa School for the Deaf in 1964.

Albert married Julie Powers on May 7, 1983, in Sioux City. He worked for John Morrell for 20 years and Finzen Piggery Inc. for 10 years.

Albert loved to fish and spend time on his boat. He enjoyed camping and bowling, but most of all playing cards with his family. He was a member of the Sioux City Deaf Club and the Jehovah's Witness Congregation.

Survivors include his wife, Julie; a son, Charles and his wife, Heidi Olson and grandson, Zander Olson of Sioux City; sisters, Nicholene Muecke of Hinton, Iowa, Julie Martin of Sioux City, Linda Heldenbrand of Sioux City; a brother, John and his wife, Delores Homer of Ames, Iowa; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, JoAnn and Jack Powers of Council Bluffs, Iowa; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Alice; a niece, Barb Martin; his grandparents, Frank and Nicholene Titus and Albert and Emma Wedlock; a nephew, Earl Eichmann; and a brother-in-law, Clarence Muecke.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family.
